The Career Strategist Demonstrates Wisdom..

My toddler daughter has a remarkable capacity for dreaming, steadfast vision, and a genuine love of "princesses". She dreams of ballerina's and princesses. For President's Day yesterday she insisted that instead of the warm clothes, mommy wanted her to wear, she needed to be a princess (Cinderella jammies). I planned on taking the vacation day yesterday to take the kids to day care, and get caught up on business activities. It became clear that for this day and this moment, my priorities needed to shift. I needed to give some quality time to my 2 beautiful kids. Kyle is 7, Caitlyn is 2. I was able to persuade Caitlyn to dress in regular warm clothes and her princess boots, so we could go outside and play in the snow. Time with brutter and mommy was really much better than watching Curious George da Monkey and going to see her friends at "school". Caitlyn does not like the idea of school-- she wants to ride a yellow Skoo bus like brutter.

Sometimes it is a simply demonstrated action that speaks such a truth. Having enjoyed the blog, "The Career Strategist", thought I would share one of my favorite entries. The blog demonstrates a wisdom that savvy career strategists may begin to apply today.

Fear of rejection, insecurity and failure are mighty motivators if we let them be. Sometimes our story and needs become so overwhelming personally that we forget to create the type of memorable impression that gets offers, creates opportunities, and opens doors.

Creative inspiration, confidence, and vision are mighty motivators if we let them be as well. When we are living our effortless, authentic selves, opportunities just seem to come to us. The phone seems to ring with the message you need at the moment, and when your life is full of possibility more than doubt, "Katie unbar the door, great stuff's a happenin' ".

Acknowledgment that positive self talk and social wisdom is an applied activity that gets results that a career strategist aspires too. Developing strategies and life rituals that validate your own importance can allow you to change the notion of "hire me please, I need a job and you need to understand that" to "wow, this is someone I choose to work with, and could be OUR competitive advantage".

There is nothing more important than to validate another human being's importance. For there are two things all humanity needs
  1. to be important
  2. to be loved
So that is "The Secret" of human nature for today. How are you supporting yours and others basic humanity needs? What activities can you take RIGHT NOW to move yourself closer to living your goals?

If YOU are clear on the answers, you will be equally clear on accepting the right career when it is presented. Wishing you a little more career joy than you think you can handle, for I am sure the universe intends great things for you!

Interview Preparedness Checklist..

We have offered various helps to career success.. resolutions, key words, visualizing success, preparing resumes.

Today we will share an Interviewer's Employment Success Checklist. Review materials in advance of an interview, consider the aid of a friend, mentor, or image coach to check the checklist and help offer feedback and check information to set the stage for your success.

An interview is not intended to GET a job, it is an intentional discovery between a candidate and employer to determine if there is a complimentary justification to work together. What I mean by this is that too many people are interviewing to GET a job.. What if the job you GET, is not one you want? This is costly to you and your employer, so preparing to be an active interviewer requires a bit of pre-work -- research into what you are, and what you do well for the interview, research into who they are and why you might want to work for them...

Try this out, let us know how you fare. If you rate yourself in these key elements before and after the interview, you will be well positioned to where career success is a matter of time and correct opportunity!

Wishing you much career success! Why don't you let us help you on the road? Register today as a New Candidate, then get more personalized networking and career resources at Helping Friends Career Network!

What Investments Pay, in terms of Resume'?

In my local news paper, the Akron Beacon Journal, resume expert, Sarah Richardson advised of a trend to "dress a resume with icons, logos or art in her "Art Attack" resume tip. A LifeHacker blog on communication summarizes the type of investments will get you the best results in terms of resume.

We care about your success and are really only successful if we help YOU to be successful. After you have finished your resume, please take a moment to post your resume in our NEW CANDIDATES section if you have not registered with Helping Friends. Post an update if you have created a more focused resume. In the coming months we plan on selecting "excellent" candidates from our resume base who will receive additional career marketing services and feedback on how to optimize your resume for today's market.

To summarize some do's and don'ts for setting the right image:
  • Do invest in refining and summarizing your skills to match the present industry needs.
  • Don't substitute pictures for substantial experience.
  • Do prepare a work portfolio to bring to the interview.
  • Don't try to make your resume hold all the content of your work portfolio.
  • Do Summarize- don't create novellettes.
  • Do focus your text choices and formatting to make your resume easy to read and use.
  • Don't try to too clever on your resume, with underlining font changes, etc.. that Resume Scanners can not easily interpret.
  • Do accurately represent your skills, strengths, and experience in your resume.
  • Don't "dramatize" or over-emphasize your skills.
  • Do invest in targetted resumes, catered to your "ideal" employer.
  • Don't lull yourself into a sense of if you send it, jobs will come.
  • Do consider a List of published works as a supporting portfolio.
  • Don't provide lengthy lists of published works within your resume.
  • Do invest in improving your "action words" and summary content to match the current industry.
  • Don't try to create a one size fits all resume, one size does not fit all, and is a leading cause of your resume not being read.
  • Do summarize your special skills that present you as a competitive advantage for the job.
  • Don't try to summarize every experience you have trained, had, or completed.
  • Do remember that your "selling yourself " opportunity exists in the Cover Letter, Resume, References, Career Portfolio and Interview thank you process give you opportunities.
  • Don't try to put too much into your resume, this is another leading cause of your resume not being read-- the oratory is just to difficult to see how you will fit.

10 attributes: What An Opportunity Magnet Does!!!

How does the Sunday before the Monday work day feel? I participated in a discussion recently where the topic was opportunity, and participants were sharing a near disdain for those who seem to have all the luck.

Some write books about it, sing about it, meet about it and seek self help regarding how they become the point of envy instead of the person envying.. My friends let us liberate ourselves from that burden of scorecard competition. Forego the disdain. Discard the romancing of limitations, and consider the magnet's charge as no so different from our human charge.

Guilt and shame often gets in the way of good opportunity. Somewhere along the line we have trained ourselves. Whether that training is for resiliency, rain making, or struggling to find a job or earn a living, the one thing we all have is unlimited potential, and unbiased capacity for success or failure.

What might you accomplish, dream or create if you were able to trade some of the notions that keep you feeling trapped for ideas that make you want to do backflips and you can not wait to start solving?

  1. Opportunity Magnets can attract peak experiences because they are not distracted by life. Denis Waitley applied this technique in Visual Motor Rehearsal.
  2. Opportunity Magnets realize that objections are merely a statement of unmet objectives.
  3. An Opportunity Magnet DOES recognize extraordinary potential, because they create uncommon optimism and possibility.
  4. An Opportunity Magnet understands statistics, but puts greater emphasis on articulating the milestones for success.
  5. Opportunity Magnets do not have time nor interest in embracing limitations, they are too busy creating the stories people will be talking about.
  6. An Opportunity Magnet DOES realize the powerful importance of consistent thinking, visualizing and taking action.
  7. Continuous Service and Revenue Achievement is possible when not walking a continuous treadmill of "conditioned" failure. Office of Government Commerce discovered refinenent of the procurement functions and projects being aligned has resulted in less procurement cost and more revenue stream opportunities through simplifying the bid for business model of eAuctions.
  8. An Opportunity Magnet realizes that time is money, that preparedness is capacity, and focus on the customer not just hanging around, creates recognizable potential.
  9. An Opportunity Magnet does realize that consistent persistent action towards a business goal is possible, achievable and logical.
  10. An Opportunity Magnet DOES remember that most limitations begin in the individual.
RESOURCES FOR BECOMING AN OPPORTUNITY MAGNET:
